Shoji HAMADA (1894-1978) Rectangular Bottle Vase Stoneware, height 19cm. Please see additional images of the base of the piece. There are two losses to the base of the pot, which we believe to have occured during the firing process. It is without a signed wooden display box. The piece has come to us from an esteemed local collector.
The piece was bought from an auction in Japan. The vendor has written us a comment on the provenance, ‘The piece was part of a deceased estate house clearance. There were lots of wonderful pieces which were listed without much information as it was not a specialist auction. This one was in a lot with two other vases as they did not recognise its value’.
