The-Merger (Cuban, est. 2009). Large stainless steel sculpture titled "Carta De Triunfo" depicting a hand with a mirror-like finish holding a red Ace of Hearts playing card, 2016. The playing card has a mirror cut-out of the skyline of New York City. The-Merger is a contemporary collaboration group between Cuban artists Alain Pino, Niels Moleiro, and Mario Miguel Gonzalez (Mayito). Honig remarked on this series in an interview with Artist of the Month Club saying: "My giraffes, squirrels, mice, walruses, cats, and roosters stand in for a bevy of D list celebrities, reality television stars, socialites, and arm candy. I sat down with a bottle of walnut ink, my small collection of Steiff toys and my larger collection of the books for people who seriously collect them and went to town. I tore each page of Arches off the block with my bone scorer and had a great time naming each character and delicately coloring them. My grandfather is a Holocaust survivor- I just went to visit him last month. My father encouraged me to learn about my grandfather’s life through literature and I took an extensive class from Milton Katz about the Holocaust that included Maus. I appreciate Art Spiegelman. His work is wonderful. Animal Crackers is about consumer characters and voyeurism. The animals are funny because we don’t want to be viewed the way we are viewing them. I love Beatrix Potter and Edward Gorey. What would happen if these dainty characters got caught in the tabloids?" Unframed, each; height: 10 in x width: 7 in. A plaque along the lower center indicates that the salmon depicted was caught by James R. Graham from the Alta River in Norway using a 12-foot Garcia rod and Blue Charm fly; it is documented to have weighed 47 pounds with a height of 125 centimeters. The full caption reading: Cleaveland, Ohio. - Fifteen enraged passengers on a bus halted by two robbers early today, captured one of the men and beat the other so severely that he was expected to die. During the hand-to-hand engagement, the bus driver, Ralph Morgan, was shot in the wrist, but after the capture and beating, he drove the bus to the Terminal Garage, about a mile distant, where the two men were turned over to police by the passengers.
