After Anthony van Dyck (English School 19 th century), George Villiers, 2nd Duke of Buckingham (1628-87), and Lord Francis Villiers (1629-48), oil on canvas, 62 cm x 75.5 cm, in a gilt frame, 72 cm x 84 cm.
Based on the original full-length composition by van Dyck in the Royal Collection, RCIN 404401. Canvas has been lined, and there are signs of previous craquelure throughout. Scuff to the surface in the centre. Some overpainting to the collar on the left figure, bottom right corner and above the heads. Bottom left has a small overpainted area with no varnish. Bitumen deposits evident above the left head and bottom right corner. Outer section of the frame has been added later to the rest of the slip. Some wear to the gilding with some slight losses to the gesso.

Matevž Langus (Slovenian 1792-1855), Portrait of Agnes Millonig (b.1819) wearing a diamond and enamel demi-parure, signed and dated 'M.Langus pinxit. 1853' (lower left), oil on canvas, 92 x 74.5cm, framed 106 x 85cm Provenance The sitter's family, thence by descent.
Matevž Langus was initially a nail maker before training as an artist and becoming a professional painter, settling in Ljubljana. He was well known for painting portraits of the Ljubljana locals and several of his works are now in the collection of the National Gallery of Slovenia. The sitter, Agnes Millonig (neé Dullar), was born in Vavta vas, Slovenia in 1819, one of seven children of Franz and Margaretha Dullar. Once married she may have settled in Ljubljana as it would appear that the ruins of Ljubljana Castle are visible in the background of the portrait.
The diamond and enamel demi-parure depicted in the portrait has been consigned as lot 216 in the Fine Jewellery, Watches & Silver auction (23/01/2025). White deposits have dripped onto the surface of the canvas, and the painting as a whole would benefit from cleaning. Craquelure is evident on the face, neck and parts of the sky.

He also exhibited regularly at the Commonwealth Institute from 1957 to 1971. In 1963 he moved with his family from London to Chesterfield, where his wife had been offered better work opportunities. Whilst running his own gallery in Chesterfield, Art Derry continued exhibiting in London, as well as the Graves Art Gallery in Sheffield and other local galleries.

Jack Wright (1919 - 1994), Man with a Pipe, incised initials 'J.W.' (lower right), oil on canvas, 40.5 x 30.5 cm, unframed Jack Wright was a painter, sculptor and art teacher. He was born on 26th March 1919 in Ecclesall Bierlow, situated in the south-west corner of the city of Sheffield. He worked as a commercial artist in Sheffield during the mid to late 1930s and moved to London about 1940, where he became friendly with fellow artist John Elwyn (1916–1997) and with Elwyn’s circle of artist friends. Wright worked on the land during the Second World War. After 1945, he settled in Christchurch in Hampshire, where he was a tutor at the Southern College of Art in Bournemouth from about 1948. In June/July 1949 he had a joint exhibition of paintings with John Elwyn at the Paul Alexander Gallery in Notting Hill, west London, where he showed 17 works, mainly landscapes of views in and around the Bournemouth area but with some figure subjects too.
He was on the committee of the Bournemouth Arts Club (BAC), 1959–1963, and submitted Spanish landscape paintings to the BAC shows in 1958 and 1959. He is also known to have painted in Italy. He showed at the Royal Academy in 1954, 1955 and 1957 (the last was a painting of Riaza in Spain). His exhibits there included a tempera painting of wagtails in Derbyshire and a carving in English walnut of a goat. In 1974, when Wright was living in Buxton, Derbyshire, Bradford Museums & Galleries acquired a painting from him and held an exhibition of his work ('Jack Wright Paintings and Drawings') at Manor House Museum, Ilkley, West Yorkshire. He died in Sheffield in 1994.

Georgina Martha de L’Aubinière was born in Balsall Heath in the West Midlands. The daughter of English watercolourist John Steeple, she studied art in England for several years and was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy. She moved to Paris where she met fellow artist Constant de L'Aubinière, whom she married in 1874. While in France, she studied with Corot and Gérome and exhibited at the Cercle des Arts Libéraux in 1882. After touring France and England, the artist couple travelled to North America in 1882. They lectured, painted and exhibited from coast to coast until 1885-86. In Colorado L'Aubinière depicted mountain scenery before going with her husband to paint in California and British Columbia. She lived in Montreal for several years and painted Montmorency in 1888. Queen Victoria was an admirer of her work, purchasing two paintings in 1880 and receiving a series of the artist's British Columbian landscapes from the Provincial Legislature in 1887. She later returned to England and died in Bodmin, Cornwall in 1830. Her work can be found in the Dominion Gallery, Montreal.

Surface dirt and a few scuff marks to each work.Minor craquelure and paint bubbles are visible to the drips on the orange work, resulting in some minor scratches to the white paint. There are vertical indentations to the red drips on the black work but this may have been the artist's intention. There is no retouching visible under UV light.

He also exhibited regularly at the Commonwealth Institute from 1957 to 1971. In 1963 he moved with his family from London to Chesterfield, where his wife had been offered better work opportunities. Whilst running his own gallery in Chesterfield, Art Derry continued exhibiting in London, as well as the Graves Art Gallery in Sheffield and other local galleries.

Edith Mary Lawrence (British 1890-1973), Swiss Mountain Scene and An Alpine Village, a pair, both signed 'Edith Lawrence' (lower right), watercolour, each image 34 x 50 cm, framed and glazed, 63.5 x 79 cm (2) Qty: 2 Lawrence met the artist Claude Flight in 1922 and they became lifelong companions, setting up a studio together in 1927 off Baker Street from where they ran an interior decoration business and produced murals, textiles and decorative household objects. She exhibited her work on a regular basis throughout the 1930s at both the Ward and Redfern galleries, and also with the Society of Women Artists, the National Portrait Society and with the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours throughout her career. A joint exhibition of Lawrence and Flight's work was held at the Embroiderer's Guild in 1937 and a career retrospective of Lawrence's work was held at the University of Hull in the summer of 1973 and a memorial exhibition in her honour was held at the Parkin Gallery in London later that year.

Double impression of text on plates 1 and 5. Foxing and discolouring of paper throughout commensurate with age. Some slight creases visible but no signs of tears. The prints have not been inspected out of the frames.
