Martin Engelbrecht [Augsburg] (1684-1756) 'CEN BRUGTENPLAATs' c.1750 A fine series depicting an unidentified court scene in a stately home. A set of 6 copper engraved card-backed, cut away sheets combining to create an early peep show, [105×142 mm] with original hand-colouring and manuscript annotations in ink verso; The cut aways depict; [1] a sumptuous palace's entrance, with columns and shell-shaped decorations on the walls. Respectively on the left and on the right of the scene, a man and a woman in elegant clothes introduce the viewer to the scene;[2] a second richly decorated room, with classical arch, and a woman carrying some glasses; [3] the scene moves to an external area, surrounded by a classical arcade gallery. Here a man interacts with two women nearby; [4] the arched gallery surrounds a round open atrium, where a woman is depicted in a long yellow dress; [5] a classical wall with a gate closes the palace. A woman and two men play in the courtyard; [6] in the background we see a large classical palace, with a central portal, columns on the facade and two opened arcade on both sides.
